Before installation
Planning a Porcelain Installation
Plan a porcelain panel or slab project with the right product documentation, installer, site access, layout and delivery preparations.
Discuss your project
Choose an experienced professional
Large-format panels and slabs need appropriate handling, cutting and installation methods. Engage an installer or fabricator with experience in the selected product type. This planning guide is a checklist for that conversation, not a substitute for manufacturer instructions or a project specification.
Confirm the complete assembly
Review the substrate, support, preparation, installation materials, movement joints and any waterproofing requirements with the project team. The correct approach depends on the product, the application and the conditions on site.
Resolve the visual details early
Confirm the layout, vein direction, joints, edges, cutouts and transitions. Where bookmatching or a continuous pattern is part of the design, verify the available sequence and review the proposed arrangement before cutting.
Prepare for delivery and handling
Check access routes, doorways, elevators, unloading arrangements and protected storage. Panel dimensions and packaging can affect what is practical on site. Confirm responsibility for receiving and handling the material before scheduling delivery.
Inspect and document
Review the received material against the order and the manufacturer’s inspection guidance before installation or fabrication. Retain product labels and specifications, and raise questions promptly if the material does not match the approved selection.
Keep the current documents with the project
Our resource library links to official manufacturer guides. Ask your installer to work from the documentation for the exact product, thickness and proposed application.
